In 1951 Cliff and Judy Hahn, along with Ken and Barb Hahn, purchased the Orihula Ballroom. It started as a hobby for the young couple who were both operating farms and raising small children. The Orihula Ballroom was originally a part of the Orihula Resort, but had been operating as a separate enterprise for years. It was a large hall with no insulation and two coal furnaces for heat. The only running water was in the bathrooms and one line to the "bar". The "bar" was plywood on a frame and was painted pink. The "kitchen" consisted of a counter, a refrigerator, a very small grill and a pop tank. No water! The floors were rough cement.
In 1966 Cliff and Judy and their two sons left the farm, bought out Ken and Barb, and began to transform the Orihulla Ballroom into what it is today. Improvements were necessary and many water lines, drains, furnaces, floors and rooms were added. In the 1970's a land purchase aided in the expansion of the Hahn-A-Lula Resort. Mobil homes for lodgingwere installed and a spring fed lake, complete with sandy beach, was dug. An addition to the building with proper insulation, lighting and heat was added for wedding parties.
In the 1980's the front barroom was renovated and in the early 90's more space was added to the back ballroom. The Hahn-A-Lula had grown to accommodate 450 people in one sitting. In the late 1990's the Hahn's were at it again. A large modern kitchen and new dining room were added to the front of the building, providing seating for 70 more people. The dining room has a fireplace, view of the Wolf River and nautical theme. A new building for lodging, including a duplex, increased the number of available units to 12.
In 45 years, with the help of their sons and grand sons, the business has gone from a simple hall and bar to a modern resort. If you enjoy good food, comfortable sourroundings, excellent fishing and great people, the Hahn-A-Lula Resort is the place to be. That's all that Cliff and Judy wanted from the start.
